Lamai beach

Lamai beach, Koh Samui, Thailand

Lamai beach is Samui’s second largest tourist center. Lamai area is rapidly becoming a home to some of the best hotels on the island such as Langham Place, Silavadee, Pavilion, Rocky Resort, Montra Samui and many others.

The beach is less crowded and a bit shorter, the water is deep, especially in the south Lamai.  Northern Lamai has some rocks and corals, which makes swimming more difficult.

Beach Republic beachclub is located in North Lamai, and is well known for the regular DJ parties, great food in the restaurant, very nice swimming pool and surrounding pool area, huge red sunbeds loved by customers and excellent SPA.

In the central part of the beach you can find places to rent jet-skis and kayaks or do some parasailing or waterskiing if you enjoy watersports.

Nightlife in Lamai is smaller than in Chaweng but still has a good variety, including a very popular nightcub called Fusion, Shamrock Pub for those who likes live rock and also live sport on TV, a stadium for Thai boxing on Monday night and a small stadium for lady boxing on Saturday nights, plus endless bars, discos and music venues.

Lamai’s shopping is also mostly based on the Beach Road, similar to other areas of Samui, and incudes a few good upmarket shops as well as numerous market stalls selling pirated goods, copied clothes and usual cheap T-shirts, surfing shorts, flip-flops and sarongs.

Lamai has a fair share of girlie bars, which deserved it a reputation as the place for single guys. But if you avoid the bar quarters and stay near the beach, you can still enjoy everything Lamai has to offer.
